Abstract:Citigroup Inc. or Citi (stylized as citi) is an American multinational investment bank and financial services corporation headquartered in New York City. The company was formed by the merger of banking giant Citicorp and financial conglomerate Travelers Group in 1998; Travelers was subsequently spun off from the company in 2002. Citigroup owns Citicorp, the holding company for Citibank, as well as several international subsidiaries. Citigroup is incorporated in Delaware.

Citigroup owns Citicorp, the holding company for Citibank, as well as several international subsidiaries. Citigroup is incorporated in Delaware.

Citigroup is the third largest banking institution in the United States; alongside JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo, it is one of the Big Four banking institutions of the United States. It is considered a systemically important bank by the Financial Stability Board and is commonly cited as being too big to fail. It is one of the nine global investment banks in the Bulge Bracket.

Citigroup is ranked 33rd on the Fortune 500 as of 2021. Citigroup has over 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 160 countries. It has 204,000 employees, although it had 357,000 employees before the financial crisis of 2007–2008, when it was bailed out by a massive stimulus package from the U.S. government.

In 2020 it has over $23.6 trillion in assets under custody (AUC) In February 2021 CEO Michael Corbat retired and was replaced by Jane Fraser, who became the first woman CEO of a Big Four bank.

Citi's Global Consumer Bank (GCB) is a global leader in banking and wealth management. The Global Consumer Bank serves more than 110 million clients in the U.S., Mexico and Asia, spanning 19 markets.

Credit Cards

Citi is a global leader in payments, with 132 million accounts and $505 billion in annual purchase sales, and has unrivaled partnerships with premier brands across Citi Branded Cards and Citi Retail Services. Citi Branded Cards provides payment, credit and lending solutions to consumers and small businesses, with 54 million accounts globally.

Retail Services

Citi Retail Services is America's retail credit solution providers of private label and co-brand credit cards for retailers. The business serves 78 million customer accounts for iconic brands, including Best Buy, Exxon, Mobil, L.L.Bean, Macy's, Sears, Shell, The Home Depot and Tractor Supply Company.

Citibank serves as a advisor to our retail, wealth management and small business clients at every stage of their financial journey. Through Citi's Access Account, Basic Banking, Citi Priority, Citigold® and Citigold Private Client, it offers an array of products, services and digital capabilities to clients across the full spectrum of consumer banking needs worldwide.

Citi's Institutional Clients Group's international financial network serves corporations, financial institutions and governments in countries and jurisdictions all over the world from offices in 96 countries. The Institutional Clients Group (ICG) responds to clients' changing needs through its long-established relationship coverage approach by providing client solutions that use all of Citi's relevant capabilities including the broadest possible access to financial markets globally. The ICG includes six main business lines: Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory; Commercial Banking; Markets; Securities Services; Private Banking (part of Citi Wealth Management), and Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS).
