At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were LY Corp (TYO:4689), which rose 2.47% or 11.70 points to trade at 484.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) added 2.22% or 255.00 points to end at 11,750.00 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (TYO:5233) was up 2.04% or 56.50 points to 2,827.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007), which fell 4.22% or 93.50 points to trade at 2,122.50 at the close. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) declined 3.16% or 63.00 points to end at 1,930.50 and Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) was down 2.61% or 40.50 points to 1,512.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1858 to 1780 and 261 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.73% to 17.10.
Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.26% or 0.19 to $73.75 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.27% or 0.21 to hit $79.01 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.30% or 6.30 to trade at $2,075.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.07% to 142.24, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 156.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 101.25.
